I am truly honored to share this interview with Lebanese American writer Rabih Alameddine which was recorded in a quaint San Francisco café along with my dynamic co-host Nadia Barhoum (whose thoughtful questions made for a spectacular interview).

Rabih Alameddine is the author of the novels Koolaids, and I, the Divine, The Hakawati, the story collection, The Perv, and most recently, An Unnecessary Woman. He was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002 and was the 2014 California Book Awards Gold Medal Fiction winner and the 2014 National Book Critics Circle Award finalist for his latest book, An Unnecessary Woman. Fairuz's "Khidni Ya Habibi" Translated into English by Dr. Ramzi Salti

Here is my modest attempt to translate Fairuz's song "Khidni Ya Habibi خدني يا حبيبي  " [Take Me Away, My Love] from Arabic into English.  This song has always had a special place in my heart, as does the operetta/musical Petra in which it was initially performed, back in 1978. He Was My Friend: A Poem by Karim Al Iraqi (Translated by Ramzi Salti)

Karim Al Iraqi (1955-2023) was a renowned Iraqi poet who passed away in Abu Dhabi on September 1, 2023 after battling cancer. He was 68. As I tribute, I am sharing his poem "Kana Sadiqi" كان صديقي [He Was My Friend], an Arabic poem written by Iraqi poet Karim Aliraqi كريم العراقي  aka Karim Odeh  كريم عوده, about finding himself in the role of intermediary between a couple (two friends of his) whose love he had once witnessed but who were now breaking up. Arabology's Top 20 Podcasts of 2024 Arabology's Top 20 Podcasts from/about the Arab world When I started my  Arabology  radio show and podcast in 2012, quality podcasts from/about the Arab world were few and far between.  Those days are (fortunately) gone thanks to the advent of a wide variety of programs (audio and video) that deal with different cultural and political aspects from the region.   Below are Arabology's Top 20 podcasts for 2024.  Most are available on such music platforms as Apple Podcasts and Spotify but newer ones are increasingly being hosted on YouTube which gives these shows a nice visual component. When Egyptian Singer Sherine released her hit "Sabri Aaleel" in 2003, no one would have ever predicted that, over 2 decades later, the track would continue to be reborn, revamped, remixed and translated into different languages around the world. As a tribute to this iconic song, this article will attempt to spotlight some of the most innovative and groundbreaking resurrections of the song that have appeared through the years.
