May 16 Arabology Podcast Ft Interviews with Eliyahu Sills and Yassir Chadly


The May 16, 2013 episode of 'Arabology' features a pre-recorded interview with musician Eliyahu Sills and a live interview with Yassir Chadly who performs live on the show while playing the Oud and the gimbri. Also includes interview with music manager Alex Hughes who promotes 'A Night of Moroccan Gnawa, Sufi & Trance Music with Yassir Chadly, Eliyahu Sills, Tim Abdellah Fuson & Bouchaib Abdelhadi' on May 25 at La Pena Cultural Center in Berkeley.

In addition to Gnawa, Sufi & Trance Music, this episode includes songs from the Arab Spring and tracks by Rami Essam, Autostrad, Tamer Abu Ghazaleh, Egyptian Project, Oumeima El Khalil, Jerusalem In My Heart, Jadal, Yaseen, La Tlateh, Hiba.

Coming together for the first time, this group of internationally acclaimed musicians will entrance the audience with the sounds of North Africa on traditional instruments including Sintir, Ney, Guimbri, Oud, Darbukkah and Bendir. Members of this collaboration include the founder of The Qadim Ensemble, El Hameedeen, and Zuwwar Ennabi Gnawa Ensemble. They have received national recognition on NPR’s All Things Considered, NPR’s Living on Earth, and top sales on Billboard Music charts. This group of Bay Area treasures coming together will be a fantastic evening of music not to be missed!

Arabology Podcast #8 (May 31) ft North African Arabic Music, Voice Impersonating Singer and Arabic Version of 'I Will Survive'!

The 8th Episode of the 2nd Season of 'Arabology' (aired May 31, 2012) highlights Arabic music from North Africa and includes my interview with Moroccan Voice Impersonator/singer Wafaa Salaje who belts out (live) songs by Fairuz, Faiza Ahmad, Asmahan, Riad Sombati, and others. Show also includes my interview with Moroccan singer Houda Ben who discusses North African music (Rai and Gnawa) as well as her own budding musical career with 'The Neybuzz'--while providing us with an impromptu excerpt on the air.

Show also features a very romantic 30 minute love segment featuring mellow and luscious Arabic tunes as well as awesome music tracks by Mike Massy, Dany Baladi, Cheb Nasro, Khaled, Cheba Djenet, Darine Hamze, Marcel Khalife, Adonis, Abou Elleeef, Fairuz, Zeid Hamdan and the Arabic version of '
I Will Survive' by Haifa Wehbe!
