Here is the complete recording of Dr. Ramzi Salti's conversation with Zaid Abu Hamdan, Director of the award wining Jordanian film "Daughters of Abdul Rahman بنات عبد الرحمن " following a screening of his movie at Stanford University on June 28, 2023. Watch below or at this link.

This special event was part of the annual Stanford Global Studies Film Festival and was brought to Stanford with the generous support of the Abbasi program in Islamic Studies. 

This discussion featured commentary by Dr. Touria Boumehdi who analyzed the film's themes (in English and Arabic) followed by a lively Q&A session with the audience.

ZAID ABU HAMDAN:

Zaid Abu Hamdan is a Jordanian-born filmmaker with industry experience ranging from assistant directing, producing, acting, writing for both feature films and television. His latest feature film, Daughters of Abdul-Rahman, premiered to a global audience at the 43rd Cairo International Film Festival, where it won the the ‘Audience Award’--an honor granted granted to only one film among the many within the international competition. The film was also selected as a finalist project for a Tribeca Film Institute grant and will screen at the much anticipated Saudi Arabia 2021 Red Sea Film Festival. The movie stars Saba Mubarak, Farah Bseiso , Hanan Hillo and Mariam Basha. 

زيد أبو حمدان هو مخرج أردني المولد يتمتع بخبرة في صناعة السينما تتراوح بين المساعدة في الإخراج والإنتاج والتمثيل والكتابة للأفلام الروائية والتلفزيونية. تم عرض فيلمه الروائي الأخير "بنات عبد الرحمن" أمام جمهور عالمي في الدورة الثالثة والأربعين لمهرجان القاهرة السينمائي الدولي، حيث فاز الفيلم بجائزة الجمهور، وتُمنح لفيلم واحد فقط من بين العديد من الأفلام المشاركة في المسابقة الدولية. تم اختيار الفيلم أيضًا كمشروع نهائي للحصول على منحة معهد تريبيكا للأفلام وتم عرضه في مهرجان البحر الأحمر السعودي عام 2021. يشارك في بطولة الفيلم صبا مبارك وفرح بسيسو وحنان الحلو ومريم باشا 

DR. RAMZI SALTI

Dr. Ramzi Salti is a well-known Arab-American radio host, writer, and educator. He is known for his popular radio program "Arabology," which explores and promotes Arab culture and music. Ramzi Salti is a Lecturer at Stanford University who holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and has been actively involved in promoting intercultural understanding and appreciation for Arab arts and culture. الدكتور رمزي سلطي هو شخصية عامة وأكاديمية معروفة، يعمل كمحاضر في جامعة ستانفورد ويحمل درجة الدكتوراه في الأدب المقارَن. إضافةً إلى ذلك، يُعرف رمزي سلطي بدوره كمقدم برنامج إذاعي أمريكي يُعرف باسم "عربولوجي" ويتم بثه على محطة الراديو التابعة لجامعة ستانفورد. يسعى سلطي من خلال برنامجه الإذاعي وأعماله الأخرى إلى تعزيز التفاهم الثقافي والتواصل بين 

الثقافات المختلفة. 

DR. TOURIA BOUMEHDI

Dr. Touria Boumehdi serves on the faculty of the Language Center at Stanford University. With over 31 years of professional and academic experiences, Dr. Boumehdi has worked as Co-Director of the Spanish Department at the University of Rabat and Professor of Spanish and Arabic in Spain and France at the University of Toulouse le Mirail, the Toulouse School of Business, IAAE Oviedo and ECLAP Valladolid. She completed her Doctorate with a joint Ph.D. and highest honors in Spanish and Arabic at the University of Toulouse, a Master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Mohammed V in Rabat, and an In-Depth Studies Diploma (DEA).

 انطلقت تجربة الدكتورة ثريا بومهدي سنة 1981 عندما غادرت الرباط متوجهة إلى فرنسا بعد حصولها على الإجازة في اللغة والأدب الإسباني لمواصلة دراستها بجامعة السوربون المرموقة. وبعد سنوات من التحصيل الأكاديمي، نالت دبلوم الدراسات المعمقة في اللغات والحضارات الشرقية بعد مناقشة لأطروحتها حول الأدب الموريسكي.
