Fairuz's "Khidni Ya Habibi" Translated into English by Dr. Ramzi Salti

Here is my modest attempt to translate Fairuz's song "Khidni Ya Habibi خدني يا حبيبي " [Take Me Away, My Love] from Arabic into English. This song has always had a special place in my heart, as does the operetta/musical Petra in which it was initially performed, back in 1978. Raafat Majzoub's Book Reviewed in Kalimat Magazine

This suggests their existence rather than attempts to simply recre- ate them, allowing the reader a measure of engagement and creation with the text. The writing in Fetish Systems, a new written work by multi-talented Lebanese author Raafat Majzoub, warrants this comparison. Dr. Ramzi Salti recently delivered a musical lecture at MLC Amman in which he contrasted old Arabic classics (songs + poems) with new, revived versions by a selection of indie singers who have managed to recreate and establish new genres within contemporary Arabic music. Titled "Arabic Music: Then and Now," the bilingual talk included excerpts by Fairuz, Hiba Masouri, Ahmad Kaabour, Omar Kamal, Dalida, Jadal, Abdel Halim Hafez, Omar Offendum, Souad Massi, Tania Saleh, Jawdat Haydar, May Nasr and others. This talk was by special invitation by the Modern Language Center in Amman, Jordan and took place on July 27, 2024. You can watch video excerpts below or here .
